FROM text to performance

The Gaza Monologues is a powerful international theatre project that gives voice to young people living through conflict. Originally written in 2010 by teenage students of Ashtar Theatre in Gaza, and later revisited in 2024 with new testimonies, the monologues express the everyday realities, fears, hopes, and dreams of a generation growing up amidst uncertainty.

In September 2025, a performance workshop inspired by this project was created and realised in Sauve, France, bringing together 21 performers from diverse backgrounds. Through collective reading, movement exploration, and improvisation, the group gave new life to both the 2010 and 2024 texts, creating a moving dialogue between past and present experiences of youth in Gaza.

The workshop offered not only a creative space for artistic expression but also a moment of reflection and empathy — connecting performers and audience through the universal language of theatre. It explored how art can cross borders, transform personal testimony into shared understanding, and foster solidarity through performance.

The project was facilitated, directed, and produced by Freya Stang, whose artistic vision guided participants in embodying the emotional truth of the texts while honouring their authenticity and human depth.
