I’m Freya Stang, a performer, director, and collaborative theatre maker.
Over the years, I’ve specialised in clown, mask, and movement theatre—using humour and lightness to tell stories that provoke thought, awaken empathy, and inspire connection.

I love that theatre can live anywhere: on stage, in hospitals, care homes, prisons, libraries, on the street, in refugee camps, war zones, in nature. Wherever people gather, there’s a story waiting to be shared.

I've specialised in Health Care Clowning, perform regularly, train new and experienced clowns, and coach internationally.  As the lead trainer, I set up the training to the European level 4 standard at Sykehusklovnene, Norway, 2019-2023.  I was a partner in the European Erasmus project to professionalise and set standards for Healthcare clowning in Europe.  For Le Rire Médicin I've been a member of their certifying jury and have been delighted to jointly certify 30 of their experienced clowns!  As an Artistic member of the Board for the European Federation of Healthcare Clowning. efhco, I enjoy collaborating across borders.

Performing Shakespeare, Chekhov, and other great playwrights is a passion; their texts mirror our shared human experience across time, cultures, and emotions.  Art is a form of emotional care.
Whether through laughter, silence, or movement — I create spaces where people can connect, reflect, and rediscover their shared humanity.

I love bringing stories to life in unexpected places:
– Theatre in the Melting Snow with the Culture School of Spitzbergen invited young people in the world’s northernmost town to explore the changing Arctic seasons.
– Pierre and the Moon, a puppet show performed in libraries, sparks children’s curiosity for reading and storytelling.

These projects remind me that theatre is not confined to a stage — it grows wherever imagination finds space to breathe.

I am deeply committed to letting the voices of those often overlooked be heard.
– Through collaborative movement theatre with female prisoners in the UK, women found the courage to share their stories.
– The mask performance “The Escape of Iris Dupont” gave artistic form to the isolation and resilience of older people during the pandemic.
– In 2025, “The Gaza Monologues”—written by teenagers from Ashtar Theatre in Palestine—were performed with the people of Sauve, echoing global solidarity and empathy.

As Artistic Director of the French theatre company Simsalabim Productions, I collaborate with wonderful artists both locally and internationally. Together, we explore how play, poetry, and presence can transform audiences.
